Sao Paulo: A criminal complaint has been filed against Paris Saint Germain striker Neymar jr for homophobia by a Brazilian gay rights activist. The complaint against Neymar was filed after PSG's number nine was heard calling his mother's boyfriend an anti-gay slur in comments leaked to the media.
The Sao Paulo prosecutor's office also confirmed the same to an international news agency. It has also been learned that now the prosecutor's office will examine the matter and decide whether to open a case against the star footballer.
When approached by media, Neymar's communications team declined to make any statement on the same.
The complaint was filed by Agripino Magalhaes. The gay right activist planned to press charges for "criminal homophobia, hate speech and death threats" against Neymar and his friends. The comment by Neymar was made in a private conversation on a gaming site.
In the audio recording now widely shared on the social networking site, the 28-year-old PSG striker was heard using an anti-gay slur against his mother's new boyfriend, Tiago Ramos. In the audio, Neymar and his friends are talking about a supposed fight between the footballer's mother and her boyfriend.
Earlier in April, Neymar's mother, Nadine Goncalves, 52, and Ramos, 22, had announced that they are in a relationship. Following the announcement, many tabloids from Brazil had run lurid stories about Ramos, a model who is openly bisexual.
