India plays out 1-1 draw against NorthEast United in friendly

Guwahati: Indian Super League club NorthEast United on Wednesday held India national team for a 1-1 draw in a friendly match at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in.

The friendly match between India and NE United was played to prepare Sunil Chhetri-led Blue Tigers for their FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Bangladesh, which will be played next week.

Sunil Chhetri, who is also popularly known as 'Captain Fantastic' scored the first goal in the 34th minute of the match. Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan netted an equaliser for NorthEast United just after ten minutes of Chhetri's goal.

In the 70th minute, Subhasish Bose netted a header. However, it was ruled out by the referee as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, in a major blow for India defender Sandesh Jhingan injured his ankle around the 10th minute of the match.

Team India will take on Bangladesh in the FIFA World Cup qualifier on October 15 at the Salt Lake stadium.
