Germany: Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hailed the "outstanding" on-field development of the club after confirming that interim manager Hansi Flick will remain in charge until the end of the season.

Hansi Flick to remain Bayern Munich coach

Flick was assistant manager to Niko Kovac and took over from the Croatian after his sacking in November.

The 54-year-old has won eight of his 10 matches in charge, including guiding the Bavarian side to top spot in their Champions League group ahead of Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino and former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri were linked to the role after Kovac's departure, but Bayern have decided to keep faith with former Hoffenheim manager and Germany assistant Flick.

Rummenigge told the club website: "We at FC Bayern are very satisfied with Hansi Flick's work. Under him as head coach, the on-field development has been outstanding, both in terms of the quality of our play and the results achieved.

"We set a new record in the 28-year history of the Champions League with six wins in six matches in the group stage, and in the Bundesliga we have returned to touching distance of the top of the table.

"I am convinced that FC Bayern will continue next year where we left off in the last few games, namely playing attractive and successful football. On behalf of FC Bayern as a whole, I wish Hansi Flick every success."

Bayern are chasing an eighth successive Bundesliga title but currently sit third, four points adrift of leaders RB Leipzig.
