Copa America: Neymar stripped of Brazil captaincy and replaced by Dani Alves

Tite's Brazil will open the tournament against Bolivia in Sao Paulo on June 14.

Rio de Janeiro: Neymar has been stripped of the Brazil captaincy for the forthcoming Copa America, with Dani Alves handed the armband for the showpiece event on home soil.

The PSG superstar Neymar was named permanent captain for Brazil by head coach Tite in September 2018.

Neymar's club and national side teammate Alves replaced him after recent disciplinary issues put him under the scanner.

In a statement released on Monday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said: "The decision was communicated to Neymar by Tite on Saturday."

Dani Alves is Neymar's PSG teammate.

This month, French football authority banned Neymar for three matches after he hit a fan following PSG's defeat by Rennes in the Coupe de France final.

The incident also saw PSG coach Thomas Tuchel ruling out Neymar as possible captain of the club.

The Copa America takes place in Brazil from 14 June to 7 July, with the hosts taking on Bolivia, Venezuela and Peru in Group A.
