New Delhi: Defending champion Chennai City FC is the only club from the I-league to get both Asian Football Confederation (AFC) & National License for the 2019-20 season as I-league giants like Mohun Bagan and East Bengal misses out.
Interestingly, despite being the I-league powerhouse clubs like Mohun Bagan were not able to meet the benchmark set by AFC and AIFF.
Other than, Chennai City FC, five Indian Super League clubs -- Jamshedpur FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, ATK and Bengaluru FC -- have also been also granted AFC & National License for the upcoming season. However, their Licensing has come with sanctions.
Kerala Blasters, Odisha FC, Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC are among four ISL clubs that missed out on Licensing.
However, there is a lifeline for clubs who failed to get the Licensing or were granted the Licence with sanctions, as they can file an appeal or seek an exemption within seven business days from October 10.
It is noteworthy that a club without AFC License can not take part in Asian Club competitions even after qualifying for the same. However, if a club did not get National License they can still play in the domestic league by seeking an exemption.
