Casillas, Spain's WC winning captain, suffers heart attack in training

Casillas was an integral part of Spain's golden generation that won successive Euro Cup titles in 2008 and 2012, and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Lisbon: Spain's World Cup winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas has suffered a heart attack while training with Portuguese football club Porto on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper, who won football's greatest ever prize, World Cup, with La Furia Roja in 2010, was immediately taken to hospital and is in a stable condition now. However, he has been kept under observation.

Casillas, a former Real Madrid star, has been working at PortoGaia Training Centre on Wednesday morning in preparation for their league encounter with Aves this weekend.

Casillas, who played for Real Madrid senior team for more than one and half decade, won three Champions League titles, and La Liga five times, with the Madrid giants.

He was also an integral part of Spain's golden generation that won successive Euro Cup titles in 2008 and 2012, and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

A Porto statement read: "Casillas suffered an acute myocardial infarction during Wednesday morning training session held at the PortoGaia training centre in Olival."The work session was promptly interrupted to provide assistance to the Porto goalkeeper, who is currently at the Hospital CUF Porto. Casillas is well, stable and his heart problem [is] solved."Meanwhile, Real Madrid also wished their legend "the courage of the world"."Real Madrid wants to transmit all their support to their beloved captain Casillas," the statement read.

"Casillas has taught us throughout his professional career to overcome the most incredible challenges to enhance the glory of our club.
