Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be played between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Sunday.

"Narendra Modi will be present for the World Cup final," a senior official of the Gujarat Home Department told ETV Bharat on conditions of anonymity.

An unbeaten India led by Rohit Sharma has stormed into the final of the marquee tournament by trouncing New Zealand in the first semi-final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Virat Kohli scored his record-breaking 50th ODI ton in the semi-final and surpassed his icon and legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

In the second semi-final, Australia defeated South Africa by three wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 2023 ODI World Cup final will see a sea of blues at the iconic Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has the capacity to accommodate 1.32 lakh spectators.

The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has made elaborate arrangements for the much-important clash, which will be held on Sunday. India is likely to field an unchanged eleven. This will be India's first appearance in the final of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup after the 2011 edition. India has won the ODI World Cup twice - in 1983 under Kapil Dev and in 2011 under charismatic Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
