IPL'19: SRH beat RR by 5 wickets, Samson's ton goes in vain

Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a thrilling five-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals here at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Friday.SRH's victory meant Sanju Samson's 55-ball hundred went in vain.

Chasing a mammoth 199 runs target SRH notched the victorywith five wickets in hand and six balls to spare.Rashid Khan (15), who took one wicket with theball in hand, finished offthings in style by smashing a boundary and six off Jofra Archer in the last two deliveries of the 19th over.

Earlier, openers David Warner (69) and Jonny Bairstow (45) built 110 runs partnership to guide SRH to their maiden victory in IPL 2019.After Warner and Bairstow's dismissals,all-rounderVijay Shankar played a cameo innings of 35 runs off 15 balls.

Earlier, RR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bat first.

Rising on Samson's 102 and Rahane's 70 RR scored 198 for 2 at the end of 20 overs.

Rahane played a stroke-filled innings comprised of four boundaries and three sixes.

However, it was 24-year-old Samson who stole the show by smashing 102 off 55 balls. His innings was comprised of ten boundaries and four sixes. Meanwhile, it was Samson's second IPL hundred.

In 2017, he rose to fame by slamming 63-ball 102 against now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant.

SHR will play their next match against RCB at Hyderabad on Sunday.

With both SRH and RR lost their respective season opener, they will eye to win their first match of IPL 2019 to put their campaign on right track.RR, who lost to Kings XI Punjab by14 runs against KXIP on Monday, didn't make any change to their playing XI.

However, SRH made two changes to their playing XI. While skipper Kane Williamson cameback to the SRH replacing Shakib-Al-Hasan, bowling all-rounderShahbaz Nadeem got his first match of the season as Deepak Hooda has been dropped.
