IPL 2019: All-round DC beat MI by 37 runs at Wankhede

Destructive Rishabh Pant literally toyed with MI bowlers during his unbeaten 78 off 27 balls that helped the visitors to post 213 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs. This innings helped Pant to bag the Man of the Match award.

Mumbai: Delhi Capitals got off to a good start to their IPL 2019 campaign as they defeated Mumbai Indians by 37 runs here at Wankhede stadium on Sunday. Batting first DC posted 213 runs on board. In reply, MI werebowled out for 176 runs in 19.2 overs. Since injured Jasprit Bumrah has not come to bat DC's wait for a comfortable victory didn't get longer.

The win helped the Delhi franchise to grab the pole position of the IPL 2019 points table, curtsey to their better NNR- net run rate.

Mumbai India, who have not won their first IPL match since 2012, were bundled out for 176.

Earlier, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. However, his bowlers failed to support his decision as Rishabh Pant (78), Colin Ingram (47) and Shikhar Dhawan (43) helped DC to set a mammoth 214 runs target for the hosts in 20 overs.

Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the MI bowlers as he finished his four overs quota with a three-wicket haul.

Batting first DC got off to a poor start as they lost Prithvi Shaw and captain Shreyas Iyer early in their innings before Dhawan and Ingram demonstrated their resurrection.

When DC were at 112 Ingram was dismissed by Ben Cutting. However, the South African's dismissal didn't affect DC's run-scoring spree as destructive Pant literally toyed with MI bowlers during his unbeaten 78 off 27 balls. This innings helped Pant to bag the Man of the Match award.

When MI commenced their chase they lost wickets in regular intervals as DC's disciplined bowling attack comprised of Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma kept them in check.

Yuvraj Singh was MI's highest run scorer in the match as he scored 53 off 35 balls.

While Rabada and Sharma picked up two wickets each Boult, Rahul Tewatia, Keemo Paul and Axar Patel scalped one each to bowl out MI for 176 with four balls to spare in their innings.
