Ahmedabad: At the end of day 1 of the pink-ball Test here at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India took firm control of the game on Wednesday. After bowling out England for 112, India scored 99 for the loss of three wickets at stumps. The hosts are currently trailing by 12 runs.

Rohit Sharma scored unbeaten 57 while captain Virat Kohli managed to pile on 27 before Jack Leach bamboozled him.

However, Chesteshwar Pujara could not open his tally while opener Shubman Gill fell for 11.

Earlier on the day, Axar Patel delighted crowds at his home ground by scalping a six-wicket haul for 38 runs after England captain Joe Root opted to bat first winning the toss. He was amply supported by Ravichandran Ashwin and 100th match man Ishant Sharma. Ashwin took three wickets while Ishant got one.

Zak Crawley highest scored for England with 53.

For England, Leach took two wickets while Jofra Archer scalped one.

13 wickets fell in the second pink-ball Test on Indian soil.

India won their first pink-ball Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in 2019.
