2019 Word Cup: Players with most centuries in WC history

The fifty overs mega cricket festival is just a few weeks away from the kick-off. The 2019 World Cup will be held in England and Wales starting May 30. Hosts England will take on South Africa in the opening match of the tournament at the Kennington Oval, London.

The defending champions Australia will start their World Cup campaign against minnows Afghanistan in the fourth match of the showpiece event at the County Ground, Bristol.

Virat Kohli-led Team India will aim to start the marquee event on a positive note when they will take on South Africa on 5th June in the 8th match of the tournament.

Ahead of fifty overs extravaganza, here is the list of players who have most centuries to their name in World Cup history.

Tendulkar, who is the first ever cricketer to smash hundred centuries in international cricket, has crossed the three-digit mark six times in as many World Cup.

Tendulkar has scored 2278 runs in WC at an average of 56.95. Tendulkar's highest score in the marquee event is 152.

2. Kumar Sangakkara (2003 to 2015)

Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara, who is one of the most influential cricketers in the world, has five World Cup centuries under his belt. Sangakkara represented Sri Lanka in four World Cups from 2003 to 2015.

The wicket-keeper batsman is also the only cricketer to score four centuries in a single World Cup. Sangakkara achieved the record in the 2015 World Cup that was played in Australia and New Zealand.

The 41-year-old has amassed 1532 runs in WC at an average of 86.55 with the help of five centuries and seven fifties.

3. Ricky Ponting (1996-2011)

Ricky Ponting, who is also the most successful ODI captain in the world, is at the third spot in this exclusive list.

The Australian great played five World Cups from 1996 to 2011. Ponting slammed 5 centuries in 46 matches. He has scored 1743 runs in the marquee cricket event and his highest score is unbeaten 140 that he slammed in 2003 WC final against India.

4. Sourav Ganguly (1999-2007)

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly represented Men-in-Blue in three World Cup from 1999 to 2007. Ganguly also captained the Indian side that reached the final of 2003 World Cup.

Ganguly has scored 1006 runs in World Cup with the help of four hundred and three fifties. Ganguly's highest score in World Cup has come against Sri Lanka in 1999.

Ganguly has also scored three centuries in a single World Cup. Other than Ganguly, Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden are the only cricketers who have scored three hundred in a single World Cup.

5. AB de Villiers (2007-2015)

De Villiers played 23 WC matches for the rainbow nation from 2007 to 2015 and scored 1207 runs at an average of 63.52.
