Birmingham: India books semi-finals spot following a hard-fought 28-run win over Bangladesh at Edgbaston on Tuesday. This defeat ended any slight hopes the Tigers had of reaching the World Cup play-offs.
Defending a fighting total of 314 runs, India prevailed over Bangladesh after restricting them to 286. At one point of time, Bangladesh were the firm favourites to win the match, however, the Tigers lost wickets at crucial junctures in the middle overs that hindered Bangladesh's chance of upsetting India.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers, as the Baroda player clinched three crucial wickets in the middle-overs that stunt any Bangladesh chance of winning the game. Jasprit Bumrah too picked up 3 important wickets for his side .
Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, was the top scorer for Bangladesh, having scored valuable 66 runs for his team.
Earlier Rohit Sharma scored his 4th World Cup ton, and he along with KL Rahul, who scored yet another fifty, helped India post 314/9 in 50 overs.
Meanwhile, this victory helped India move to second position in the points table as the Men in Blue now have 13 points from eight games. Bangladesh, on the other hand, now find themselves in the seventh position with 7 points just below Sri Lanka.
India next play Sri Lanka in their final match of round robin fixture on July 6th, while Bangladesh play Pakistan on July 5th.
