Virat Kohli fined for using drinking water to wash his cars

Kohli was fined Rs 500 for wasting drinking water. The matter was brought to GMC's notice by his neighbours.

New Delhi: Skipper Virat Kohli is busy in leading Team India in the 2019 World Cup. Now, he is getting ready for India's high-octane clash against Australia which will take place on Sunday.

In the backdrop of this development at The Oval, Kohli faced an issue back home. The Gurugram Municipal Corporation authorities have fined Kohli and issued a Challan against him for wasting drinking water after the player's domestic helpers were spotted washing his cars with drinking water.

The skipper was fined Rs 500 for wasting drinking water. The matter was brought to GMC's notice by Kohli's neighbours who complained that cars, including two SUVs, required a thousand litres of water to wash.

The issue came to the news at a time when the northern part of India coping with the severe heat wave, with the temperatures in the capital city- New Delhi- hovering at around 45 degrees Celsius.

In the wake of searing heat, north India has been suffering an acute water shortage.

The GMC also fined ten other houses in the vicinity and made it clear that misuse of water won't be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those who didn't comply.
