Sharjah: In the first match of the Women's T20 Challenge, Supernovas have set a target of 127 runs for Velocity on Wednesday here at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
After winning the toss, Velocity has decided to bowl first.
Being put in to bat, Supernovas scored 126 runs losing 8 wickets in prescribed 20 overs.
Priya Punia and Chamari Athapaththu gave the team a good start. Athapaththu played a brilliant innings of 44 runs off 39 balls. During her knock, she hit two fours and two sixes. Priya scored 11 runs before felling to Leigh Kasperek in the second ball of the sixth over.
Jemimah Rodrigues could score only seven runs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a crucial innings of 31 runs from 27 balls. But, Pooja Vastrakar returned to the dugout without opening her account.
Supernovas lower order failed cheaply. Shashikala Siriwardene scored 18 runs, Radha Yadav scored two while Shakera Selman scored five runs.
On behalf of Velocity, Ekta Bisht took three wickets, Kasperek and Jahanara Alam took two wickets each.
Earlier, both teams have played two matches against each other and defending champions Supernovas on both occasions.
Apart from Indian players, women players from England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and New Zealand are also participating in the Women's T20 Challenge. Mithali Raj is leading Velocity while Harmanpreet Kaur is captaining Supernovas.
