Manchester: India maintained their unbeaten run in the World Cup 2019 as they outclassed West Indies by 125 runs in the match no. 34 of the tournament at Emirates Old Trafford here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the defeat means that West Indies are officially out of the tournament as they have managed to accumulate only three points from their 7 games.

  • Pacer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he bagged four crucial wickets— Chris Gayle (6), Shai Hope (5), Shimron Hetmyer (18) and Oshane Thomas (6)—in his 6.2 overs to derail Windies's run chase.

On the other hand, Sunil Ambris was the top scorer for the Carribean nation having scored 31.

Earlier, skipper Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni slammed contrasting half-centuries while Hardik Pandya smashed a quickfire 46 to help India post 268/7 in 50 overs.

Kohli slammed 72 off 82 deliveries, his innings studded with eight fours, while Dhoni took time till the final over to get his mojo back and remained unbeaten on 56 off 61 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes after India chose to bat first.

Pandya took 38 balls to score 46 (4x5) before holing out to Fabien Allen off Sheldon Cottrell in the 49th over.

For the Windies, Kemar Roach (3/36) was the pick of the bowlers while Sheldon Cottrell (2/50) and skipper Jason Holder (2/33) chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.

Meanwhile, the victory saw India move to the second spot in the points table with 11 points in six games.

India will next take on England on June 30, while West Indies will meet Sri Lanka on July 1.
