Virat Kohli beats Rohit Sharma to end 2019 as leading run-Scorer

The 31-year-old stylish batsman amassed 466 runs in T20Is, 1377 runs in ODIs and 612 runs in Test in the year 2019.

Hyderabad: Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday led Team India's chase as Men-in-Blue thrashed West Indies by fours wickets and in the process, the 31-year-old dashing batsman finished as the highest run-getter in all formats.

Kohli scored 2455 (all formats) in 44 games with the help of seven hundreds and 14 fifties. Kohli's deputy Rohit Sharma, who played a fine knock of 63 runs in third ODI against West Indies, finished at the second spot with 2442 runs under his belt. However, Rohit ended the year 2019 as the leading run-getter in one-dayers.

Pakistan's ODI skipper Babar Azam was placed at the third spot in the list with 2,082 runs under his name. New Zealand's Ross Taylor has reserved the third spot with 1820 runs followed by England's Test skipper Joe Root, who has 1790 runs under his belt.

Windies' batsman Shai Hope has the third-highest ODI runs in 2019 as he finished with 1,345 runs from 28 matches. Hope was followed by Australian skipper Aaron Finch, who amassed 1141 runs in the one-dayers. Babr Azam was placed at the fifth spot with 1,092 runs.

It is also noteworthy that in the decider game, Rohit broke Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya's 22-year-long record of scoring the most international runs as an opener in a calendar year.

In the year 2019, Kohli, also known as run-machine, scored seven centuries including his career-high Test score of 254 not out.

Talking about 2019 calendar year, Kohli said, "2019 has been one of the best years for Indian cricket. Apart from the 30 minutes in the World Cup, it's been a great year. We'll keep chasing that ICC trophy. But apart from that, the way we've played has been satisfying."
