Mumbai: Injured Rohit Sharma has been replaced by Shubman Gill for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand as confirmed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Monday.
The decision came after Rohit was ruled out of the upcoming ODI and Test series against New Zealand on Monday after sustaining a calf injury in the first innings of the fifth and final T20I at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
Rohit retired hurt after scoring 60 off 41 balls after he pulled his calf muscle while going for a quick single during the fifth T20I against New Zealand.
Interestingly, Gill, who was part of the Indian squad when India last time toured New Zealand for a five-match ODI series, has been called up due to his scintillating form.
The 20-year-old batsman is currently in the same country playing for India A against New Zealand A and he recently scored a double hundred in a 4-day game. His 279-ball effort comprised 22 boundaries and four sixes.
Also, Shubman might have got used to the New Zealand conditions till now which might prove beneficial for Team India in the upcoming two-match Test series, which will begin from February 21.
