Delhi: Australian team turned the tables upside down by winning the first ODI series in 10 years on Indian soil by beating Men in Blue in the series decider, here. Many records tumbled as this was skipper Virat Kohli's first ODI series defeat at home since he took the charge in 2016.
Here are some key stats about the series
⦁ Most runs in a 5 match ODI series for Australia - Usman Khawaja
Australia's opening batsman Usman Khawaja, who was the highest run-getter in the five ODI against India, was awarded the man of the series title. While scoring 383 runs with the help of two match-winning hundreds, the left-hand batsman became the second highest run scorer in five-match ODI series for Australia, only behind David Warner who smashed 386 runs against South Africa Series in 2016.
⦁ Most runs in a 5-match ODI series against India - Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja while playing a vital role in series win smashed two tons and one fifty. He now holds the record for scoring most number of runs against India in a five-match ODI series. Earlier the record was held by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who smashed 361 runs in 2014 against Indian team.
⦁ Third fastest to 8,000 ODI runs - Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, after scoring his 41st half-century in the fifth ODI, became the third fastest batsman to cross 8000 runs in 50 over cricket. He is the ninth Indian batsman to do so. Rohit has taken 200 innings to reach the milestone, which is the joint third fastest with Ganguly and behind AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.
⦁ Fastest to reach 6,000 runs an opener - Rohit Sharma
When Rohit reached 13 run mark in the fifth ODI he completed 6000 runs in ODI cricket while opening the innings. The right-hand batsman thus became only the 4th Indian and the 17th cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs as an opener. Rohit got to this milestone in 121 innings; the fewest any player took to get there.
⦁ Teams winning after being 0-2 down in an ODI series
Australia became the fourth side to win a 5 match series after being 0-2 down. South Africa has done it twice against Pakistan in 2003 and England in 2016. Bangladesh also went on to win the series against Zimbabwe after getting beaten in first two matches of the series.
Interestingly, India is the only side to have lost the series twice after getting the lead of 2-0.
⦁ First series defeat for India at home since 2016
Last time India lost a home series was way back in 2016 when MS Dhoni was the captain of the Indian side. India lost that series 3-2 against South Africa.
⦁ First series loss as captain for Virat in India
This was skipper Virat Kohli's first series defeat while captaining the team on home soil. India lost the series after being 2-0 up as Australia defeated the hosts in last three matches on the trot. This was the first time India have lost three consecutive ODIs under Kohli's captaincy.
