Manchester: India extended its winning run against Pakistan at the World Cup following a 89-run victory at Old Trafford on Sunday after rain delays saw the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method enforced.

Rohit Sharma's sparkling 140 from 113 balls helped India to their seventh win in seven World Cup matches against their arch-rivals.

Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed shed light on what went wrong for his team and revealed the reason behind their loss.

"We were going really well, especially if you talk about our batting. When we lost our first wicket, Imam and Fakhar, they made a good partnership. Our message was to just stay on the wicket and just try and hit four, six to seven runs per over. But unfortunately, we lost too many wickets and that's why we lost the match,' Sarfaraz said.

"I think we won a good toss. I think we didn't capitalise on that. When we saw the pitch, a little bit of moisture on the pitch, we used the conditions. I think we didn't hit the right areas and created for the hitters while they (India) played really well through that," Pak skipper added.

Also, Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim said that India was superior to them in every department and used the condition really well.

"They (India) outclassed us in every department, think they have a very good side, experienced side and obviously the opening partnership was very good. And 335, we were going nicely, but four wickets in four overs, think that was the turning point," Imad said.

"It happens, I think they played pretty well. They used the condition really well, they got out there and they survived Amir's spell, which was crucial and they capitalised. So hats off to them," he added.
