Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has only recently reintegrated the country with international cricket hosting Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI and T20I series. But the country's continuous struggle to revive domestic cricket has still been in dismal conditions which putting many talented cricketers' careers under threat.
With PCB maintaining a safe distance from departmental cricket culture that played a pivotal role in nourishing cricket over the decades to keep Pakistan cricket on the world map, many promising cricketers have lost employment opportunities. Hence, PCB's move drew a lot of ire from promising cricketers.
With cricket is no more a secure mean for employment in the country, a talented cricketer namely Fazal Subhan, who has long been finding hard to meet the end, opted to work as an autorickshaw driver in an attempt to earn bread and butter for his family.

Fazal, who played for Pakistan U-19 team and Pakistan A, now work as a driver of rented pickup van.
“Yes, I drive this [pickup] for bhara (fare). This is seasonal work. Some days there is a lot of work, and sometimes there is nothing for 10 days,” Fazal was quoted as saying by Pakistan media while on the wheel of his rented pickup van.
“I worked so hard to play for Pakistan. During departmental cricket, we were drawing a salary of Rs 100,000 but since the departments have shut down we are down to Rs 30,000-35,000, which is not enough to survive,” the cricketer, who used to play for Karachi based Habib Bank Limited, said.
“I am grateful that at least I have this job right now because of the way things are, who knows if I would even have this tomorrow. We have no choice; we have to do something for our children.”
Talking about his career, Fazal said, “I played for Pakistan Under-19 team, and I also played for Pakistan A. I appeared in 42 first-class matches and was among the top five for two years. I played the home series in Lahore against India. I had played thrice in the series, and scored 39, an unbeaten 22 and once I was out for nought.”
