As Virat Kohli completed 12 years in international cricket on Tuesday, here we take a look at how the Indian skipper has fared compare to Tendulkar.

Hyderabad: Even though comparing two different eras in any sports, not just cricket, is not fair to players. However, one can not help but wonder every time they see an exciting talent on the field if he would be able to surpass the past greats in that particular sports. One such story is that of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his 'idol' Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar, arguably the greatest of all time, has achieved almost everything with the bat. He has scored 18426 runs from 463 ODIs at an average of 44.83. Tendulkar is just one short of a half-century of hundreds in the 50 overs format. Sachin, popularly known as the 'Master Blaster' among cricket enthusiasts, has amassed 15921 runs from 200 Tests. He has 51 centuries under his belt in the longest format of the game.

With each passing day, the comparisons between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar keeps on growing. And many believe that the current Indian skipper could break the records set by Tendulkar.

As Virat Kohli completed 12 years in international cricket on Tuesday, here we take a look at how the Indian skipper has fared compare to Tendulkar.

The veteran great called time on his career after registering 100 international centuries, while Kohli already has 70 centuries under his belt across all formats.

It must be noted that Tendulkar is the only player in the history of 'game of fame' to touch the mark of 100 centuries in international cricket and the Indian skipper is at the second spot in that list.

To date, Kohli has registered 43 centuries in ODI cricket and has established his image as one of the finest run-chasers in the history of the game. The 31-year-old has played 248 ODIs so far, in which he has scored 11,867 runs at an average of 59.33 with his highest score being 183 against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Tendulkar after completing 12 years in international cricket has scored 10,803 runs in 272 innings with the help of 31 centuries and 53 fifties. Tendulkar's then highest score was 186* as compared to 183 of Kohli.

While Kohli averages 59.33 in one-dayers, Tendulkar had an average of 43.73.

Kohli is at the top spot in ICC ODI rankings and is at the second spot in the Test rankings.

If we talk about Kohli's perfomance in the red-ball cricket, then the right-handed batsman has so far played 86 Tests, scoring 7,240 runs with 27 centuries at an average of 53.62.
