Nagpur: Coming into bat at number three after the dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli reached the three-figure mark in 107 balls. With this hundred he went closer to Sachin Tendulkar tally 49 ODI ton. Kohli will require 10 more hundred to break his predecessor's record.

While hitting the hundred Kohli broke former Australia captain Ricky Ponting's record. Kohli has taken just 159 innings to reach the mark while Ponting required 204 innings to achieve it. At the same time, he became the sixth player to score 9,000 runs in international cricket as captain. Graeme Smith (220 innings), MS Dhoni (253), Allan Border (257), Stephen Fleming (272) are the other former captains in the list.
It was Kohli 65th international hundred across the formats, his seventh against Australia. Meanwhile, India's total of 250 was also their second-lowest total in ODIs when Kohli posted a century. India's lowest score is 240 against Windies when Kohli scored 107 in 2018.
During his innings, Kohli showed the grit and determination to make sure India post a respectable total on the board at the sluggish Vidarbha Cricket Association ground. The 30-year-old mostly played ground shots and hit 10 boundaries. The only time he tried to loft the ball in the air was his dismissal of Pat Cummins for 116 (120 balls) in the 48th over.
