Gurez Valley: When we talk about cricket the first image that crosses or mind are green pitches. However, interestingly, Kashmiri youth have made the 'game of fame' a bot more innovative as they play cricket in snow-covered Gurez valley in Kashmir.
Every year when there are heavy snowfall in Kashmir, the locals of Gurez Valley in Bandipora, organises a cricket tournament on a frozen snowfield in a village of Gurez.
In the last couple of years, snow cricket has become a bit of hit among residents here. The reason behind organising snow cricket is to attract the attention of the authorities.
Speaking about the tournament, Shahid Zaibullah, one of the organizing members told a leading newspaper, “The area lacks sports infrastructure for organizing winter games as it has been ignored, but to attract the attention of higher authorities and the outside world youth of Gurez decided to organize snow cricket tournament.”
