Hyderabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently announced that a total of 332 players will be auctioned on Thursday. IPL 2020 auction is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Kolkata.
Since its inception IPL auction has always been a pack of surprises. While some uncapped players become millionaires overnight, there are veteran stars who end up not getting a team in the cash-rich league.
This year too there will be many such incidents which will surprise cricketing fraternity across the world.
On the eve of the IPL 2020 auction, ETV Bharat prepares a list of players who may find difficult to get buyers.
Angelo Mathews
This Sri Lankan all-rounder has never managed to justify his potential as an all-rounder in IPL. He is a solid middle-order batsman and a handy medium pacer but in IPL he was unimpressive.
As he is a one-dimensional player Mathews may find hard to get a buyer this time around.
Yusuf Pathan
The elder of Pathan brothers rose to fame due to his outstanding performances in IPL. He won the coveted title with three different franchises- Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
But it seems the 37-year-old is no longer being considered a handy cricketer. He is now largely a liability on the field. He is also inconsistent with the bat in hand which may force teams to turn their face away from Yusuf this time.
Hanuma Vihari
The Andhra Pradesh cricketer never managed to make a case for himself in the shortest format of the game. Last season, he played only a couple of matches for Delhi Capitals. In the domestic circuit, he is rather known as an outstanding Test batsman. His white-ball performances are not that sound. Hence, his chance of getting a team seems unlikely.
Dale Steyn
The South African pace bowling legend is one of the few big names who failed to showcase their skills in IPL. Last season, he appeared for Royal Challengers Bangalore but injury prevented him from playing rest of the season. At 36, he made a comeback to professional cricket through Mzansi Super League for Cape Town Blitz.
However, IPL teams may not be willing to spend a big amount on him.
