Indore: Indian bowlers shine as the hosts restrict Sri Lanka for 142/9 in the second T20I of the three-match series at Holkar Stadium here.

Despite getting a flying start, Sri Lanka failed to put big score on board as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Navdeep Saini was the pick of the bowlers for India as the pacer bagged two wickets and conceded only 18 runs in his allotted four overs.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur shone in the death overs as he picked three wickets in the 18th over to keep the pressure on Sri Lanka.

Also, Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets, while Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah, who is making his return to international cricket after back injury, took one wicket each.

On the other hand, Kusal Perera hit 34 off 28 balls , while Avishka Fernando scored 22 off 16 balls to help Sri Lanka set the modest target for the hosts.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bowl first against Sri Lanka.

After the T20I tournament opener between India and Sri Lanka was washed out on Sunday without a single ball getting bowled, both the teams are aiming to take an early lead in the series by winning the second T20I.

The Men in Blue, who enjoyed a brief break, are coming into the series on the back of T20I series victories against Bangladesh and West Indies respectively and thus would be the more confident side out of the two.

Also, Indian team management and cricket fans would focus on comeback man Jasprit Bumrah who is making his return to international cricket. Bumrah has been out of action after India's tour of the West Indies in July-August due to a stress fracture on his back and thus would be rearing to go and perform for the team.

For Sri Lanka, the remaining two matches of the series would be about giving match practice to the likes of Angelo Mathews who is returning to the national side having last played a T20I against South Africa in August 2018

Meanwhile, in their last T20I series, Sri Lanka suffered a 0-3 rout in Australia as all their three departments failed to put in a commanding performance.

India and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 17 T20Is, out of which India have won 11 -- joint most for them against all opponents faced in the shortest format.

Interestingly, Sri Lanka have never beaten India in a bilateral T20I series, a record which they would desperately like to change in the remaining two games.
