Hyderabad: After winning their maiden ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy at any level on Sunday, the young Bangladesh cricket team went wild with their celebration.
On Sunday, Akbar Ali-led Bangladesh defeated the tournament favourites India by three wickets to become the new world champions in youth cricket. Post the match, while celebrating their victory, young Tigers got involved in a vulgar display as they resorted to indiscipline in the name of celebration.
Bangladesh players rush to the ground after winning their maiden ICC U-19 World Cup title. Shoriful Islam was seen sledging Indian batsmen ever since the first ball of the match was bowled. And he crossed all the limits when his team clinched their maiden World Cup title. In fact, just moments after Bangladesh won the match, a fight broke out between Indian and Bangladeshi players. After confrontations between players of either side, India coach Paras Mhambrey was seen calming his boys.
Bangladesh and Indian players got involved in a scuffle as the match got over. In the aftermath of their obscene gestures, many cricket enthusiasts even went on to say that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) should first teach their players the sportsmanship and how to respect their opponents before sending their squad to any major tournaments.
While talking about his team's behaviour, even Bangladesh skipper Akbar Ali condemned his players' post-match gestures and he went on to say that it was 'unfortunate' to see his players getting involved in such things.
“Some of our bowlers were emotional and were pumped up. What happened after the game was unfortunate. I would like to congratulate India,” Akbar said.
Former cricketer and IPL GC member Surinder Khanna expresses his thought on Sunday's incident. Meanwhile, it must be noted that both the teams were full of young blood and the boys are yet to learn about handling themselves in such high-pressure game. It has also been learned that ICC is planning to form a committee to probe the incident that took place on Sunday.
Speaking on the incident, Anil Patel, the team manager of India U-19 team, has confirmed that the ICC would take action to ensure that such an incident doesn't happen again.
Former cricketer Ajay Mehra sheds light upon the scuffle between Indian and Bangladesh cricketers. “We don’t know what actually happened. Everybody was in shock, absolutely, but we don’t know what happened exactly. The ICC officials are going to watch the footage of the last few minutes and they are going to let us know,” Anil Patel told a website.
“The referee came to me. He was sorry about the incident. He clarified the ICC is going to take very seriously what has happened during the match and the last session and they are going to witness the footage and they will tell us in the morning [on the next step],” he added.
The problem with these young lads is that they are not aware of the fact that they will play many more games like this in the years to come. And such behaviour always put them on the bad light. However, as we are talking about taking actions, then both BCCI and BCB must make sure that their youngsters get trained on how to maintain basic etiquette on a cricket field.
