Hyderabad born Ravi Teja set to become BCCI umpire

This year five aspirants from Hyderabad participated in the exams and Teja was the only one to clear it.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad born Ravi Teja has been inducted in the Board of Control for Cricket in India umpiring panel.

The 29-year-old Teja successfully passed the umpiring exams held by the BCCI and got selected for the National Domestic Matches this season.

This year five aspirants from Hyderabad participated in the exams and Teja was the only one to clear it.

Teja followed his dream even when his father wanted him to concentrate on his studies.

“Once I got a seat in an Engineering college, my father was very particular that I focus on my studies. It was a very difficult phase as my mind was in the game only even though I could clear my B Tech. I was waiting for an opportunity to come back to the place where I enjoy the most. I put a lot of effort into it and after I came to know that I had qualified, I was very thrilled,’’ Ravi said after clearing the exam.Teja took up umpiring as a career when he realised that he might not become successful cricketer. Teja has done umpiring in some local tournaments and to improve his skills he has also taken umpiring course.Former International umpire I Shivram also praised the hard work and determination of Teja saying, “He worked very hard and I’m happy that he passed the test. He sacrificed his career in engineering and gambled on umpiring. That is a big risk and he was now able to achieve his goals.’’Teja, who idolise Simon Taufel and Aleem Dar, "I have to work very hard to become a good umpire. It is a big challenge.’’After Shamsuddin and A Nanda Kishore Teja will be the third umpire from Hyderabad to be inducted in BCCI panel.
