Visakhapatnam: South Africa were left reeling at 39 for 3 at stumps on the second day of the opening Test against India here on Thursday.
Opener Dean Elgar (27 not out) and Temba Bavuma (2) were at the crease at the draw of stumps.
The visitors are still trailing by 463 runs.
Earlier, India declared their first innings at 502 for seven on the second day of the series-opener against South Africa, here on Thursday.
Mayank Agarwal scored 215 while Rohit Sharma scored 176 in India's massive total.
India lost opener Rohit in the first session and Chetehswar Pujara (6), skipper Virat Kohli (20), Ajinkya Rahane (15) and Agarwal in the second.
