Mumbai: Indian cricket board (BCCI) members got a major reprieve as the Committee of Administrators (CoA) explained the nine-nine eligibility criteria and cooling off period for contesting elections in the BCCI on the national body's website. The elections are supposed to be held on October 22.
As per the clarification, if office-bearers have completed nine years in the state association, then they can contest for a post at the BCCI. However, that nine-year term must have a three-year cooling-off period after serving the post of an office-bearer for two successive terms either in the Association or in the BCCI or a combination of both.
According to the Supreme Court of India order on August 9 last year, the cooling-off period for the BCCI office-bearers was mandatory after two consecutive terms at office.
Hence, a person who has been serving Indian cricket as an office-bearer in a member association for successive nine years or more shall not be disqualified to be a representative of the member association to the BCCI and to contest the election for the post of an officer-bearer or Councillor or member of the Governing Council in the BCCI.
