Thiruvananthapuram: Star Indian wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scalped five wickets while Axar Patel displayed an all-round performance to help India 'A' ease past South Africa 'A' by 69 runs in the first one-dayer on Thursday.

While Chahal returned with the figures of 5/47, Axar scored a 36-ball 60 with the bat while also picking up two wickets to earn the Man of the Match trophy.

India while batting first posted 327/6 in a 47-over game. In reply, Reeza Hendricks (110) and wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen (58) tried hard to help the Proteas win, however, they failed short. Shivam Dube top-scored for the hosts with an unbeaten 79.

Earlier, South Africa 'A' had won the toss and had elected to field first. india kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were once reduced to 206/6 inside 38 overs. However, Axar and Dubey joined hands to take India to 327 which was always going to be challenging for South Africa. Axar was explosive as he took the bowlers to the cleaners while Dube also crunched a few big sixes.

It was all Chahal show from there on as he never allowed the visiting batsmen to settle down by using his variations to perfection. Hendricks played brilliantly for his century and Klaasen too, looked his usual destructive self, scoring a quick 58 but other batsmen failed around them.
