Asif claims that even after performing good in domestic cricket in Pakistan he was ignored by the selectors.
- In the first class cricket tournament in Pakistan, he represents Water and Power Development Authority team in Departmental One Day Cup. However, he failed to perform up to the expectation in the tournament as he could only grab three wickets in 5 matches that he played with an average of 52.
- Although, the 36-year old pacer was outstanding in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy where he secured 18 wickets in four matches. In this 18 wickets, he took two five-wicket hauls, at an average of just 17.61.
Meanwhile, reflecting on PCB's ignorance, Asif said, “I performed very well in the previous domestic season, picking up some 45 wickets in seven matches. However, no one called me up and I am getting completely ignored, which is unjust and should not happen.”
“If you are giving opportunity to one person [Mohammad Amir], others should be given the same opportunity as well. It is a double standard from the Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] and cricket selectors, as well,” the furious pacer added.
Recently, South Africa's batsman Hashim Amla named Asif as the best bowler he has ever faced. He is not the first batsman to say so as Former England batsman Kevin Pieterson also said that the Pakistan quick was the best bowler he played against.
Asif has picked 106 wickets in the 23 Test matches he has played for Pakistan. He also represented the country in One Day Cricket for 38 matches and seized 46 wickets in it.
Asif has not played a single international match since 2010, when he got banned and despite his ban getting over in 2015, Asif is still waiting for a call-up. Interestingly, Asif's teammate Mohamad Amir, who was also banned in 2010, has returned to the international cricket after completing a 5-year ban.
