After pulling out of IPL, Raina wants to coach J&K's budding cricketers

The J&K Police also presented a memento to Raina for his outstanding performance in sports.

Srinagar: Veteran Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina, who originally hails from Srinagar's Rainawari, on Friday met Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director General of Police Dilbag Singh for promoting sports in the erstwhile state.

Earlier on August 26, Raina had written a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh and Anantnag Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh and expressed his interest in promoting sports activities in the Valley.

“I write this letter with much hope and expectation to start and promote cricket and thus provide an opportunity for the underprivileged children from the state of Jammu & Kashmir to shape their career in cricket," Raina had said in the letter.

"It gives me immense pleasure to get the support of honourable Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha sir. Had a productive meeting today with him on working towards creating a platform for sports in Jammu & Kashmir. Let's make it bigger," Raina wrote on Twitter.

"Cricketer Suresh Raina and DGP Dilbag Singh discussed a series of plans of J&K Police for encouraging local youth in honing their sports skills", a senior police official said, before adding, "Raina has also volunteered to mentor some local cricket teams too."

The J&K Police also presented a memento to Raina for his outstanding performance in sports.

The left-handed batsman scored 5,615 runs in ODI cricket at an average of 35.31.

Raina also registered 768 runs in the longest format of the game with his highest score being 120.

Raina is also the second-highest run-getter in the history of the IPL, only behind Virat Kohli.
