2019 WC: India thrash Pakistan by 89 runs in World Cup clash

India now has a 7-0 record against Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup.

Manchester: India defeated Pakistan by 89 runs on Sunday at Old Trafford stadium here in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, and as a result, the Men in Blue maintain their unbeaten record against the arch-rivals in the World Cup.

The Men in Blue displayed a clinical performance against Pakistan. Batting first, India posted 336 runs on the board, owing to Rohit Sharma's 24th ODI ton.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul registered fifty-plus scores and India had no problem in defending the total as Pakistan, in reply, lost quick wickets in the middle and reached 166/6 in 35 overs before rain caused a temporary halt to the proceedings.

The match resumed after almost 50 mins and the revised target for the Green Shirts was 302 on the basis of Duckworth-Lewis and they had to chase it down in 40 overs. Only managing to reach 212/6, Pakistan fell to their third defeat of the tournament.

India now has a 7-0 record against Pakistan in the 50-over World Cup.

Meanwhile, this is India's third win of the tournament and they jump to third on the table, behind second-placed New Zealand on the basis of net run rate.

On the other hand, Pakistan, who sink to the ninth place, now need to win all of their remaining matches to make it to the knockouts.
