Ho Chi Minh City: Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma clinched Vietnam Open Super 100 title after beating China's Sun Fei Xiang 21-12, 17-21, 21-14.
This is Sourabh's second Super 100 title win in the ongoing calendar year. Earlier in August, he won the Hyderabad Open.
Sourabh, who cruised to the final of the tournament untested, kickstarted the summit clash on a positive note winning the first game 21-12. During the final, the Madhya Pradesh shuttler banked on his strengths -- jump-smashes and net-play -- to edge out his Chinese counterpart. At one point in the first game, Sourabh was even enjoying 8 points lead. But the Chinese put up commendable efforts to squeeze the gap but the Indian recovered midway to bag the first game 21-12.
However, the Chinese didn't lose the competition without a fight. In the second game, Sun Fei Xiang appeared as an improved player. He made amends of his first game errors. He forced the Indian to wait for 9 long points to score his first.
From 1-9 Sourabh roared back and finally went down 17-21 to the Chinese that led the match to the decider, third game.
Both shuttlers were cautious in their approach to the game. But Sourabh once again proved that he is steadily raising his bar knocking out Sun Fei Xiang 21-14 in the final game to win the title.
