Singapore Open: Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu ease into second round

Singapore: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal sailed into the second round of the Singapore Open on Wednesday.

Sindhu earned a straight-game win over Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky of Indonesia while Nehwal needed some time to settle down against Yulia Yosephin Susanto in the opening game, but advanced to the second round with 21-16, 21-11 victory in 43 minutes.

The Rio Olympic silver medallist will play Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the next round. At the same time, Nehwal will confront the winner of the match between Indian qualifier Mugdha Agrey and Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong.However, it was not a good day for India men's doubles competition.
