Singapore Open: Saina Nehwal bows out, PV Sindhu into semis

Singapore: Former World Number one Saina Nehwal bows out of Singapore open on Friday after losing to World No.3 Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in straight sets 8-21, 13-21. Nehwal, who qualified for quarterfinals after thrashing Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-16, 18-21, 21-19 in the second round, was sloppy and had no answer to the Japanese shuttler.

Okuhara took just 36 minutes to defeat Saina Nehwal.

Meanwhile, India's Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu stormed into semis of Singapore Open after surviving a scare against Chinese teenager Cai Yanyan.

The World Number four shuttler started her first set a bit low but soon gain momentum as she won the first match 21-13. However, the Chinese fought back into the second game 17-21 to take the match to the decider.

A cool and composed Sindhu won the last set easily 21-14 to qualify for the semis. Sindhu will face World Number two Okuhara in the semi-finals on Saturday.
