Hyderabad: India’s para-badminton stalwart Manasi Joshi has been featured on the world-reputed TIME magazine’s list of Next Generation Leaders 2020.
In 2019, Manasi Joshi created a frenzy by winning the Para-Badminton World Championships women's singles gold. India had a world champion in Basel (Switzerland) even before the entire nation turned its attention to BWF women's singles gold medallist PV Sindhu.
Now almost a year later after that magnificent feat, the para-shuttler found herself on the cover page of famous TIME magazine. Manasi featured on the New York-based news magazine's list of Next Generation Leaders 2020.
As per the magazine, the exclusive list includes only 10 people from across the world – “trailblazers who are forging new paths, crossing boundaries and creating change”.
30-year-old Manasi, who was one of the regular trainees at Gopi Chand Academy before meeting a life-changing accident in 2011 in Mumbai, won the gold medal in women’s singles SL3 final defeating World No. 1 and compatriot Parul Parmar 21-12, 21-7.
It’s been six years since TIME magazine producing the list of Next Generation Leaders in partnership with Rolex. The influential news publication has selected the rising faces who made a meaningful impact in the fields of politics, business, culture, science and sports.
It must be noted that TIME's previous selectees have gone on to lead nations, receive Oscar nominations and clinch Olympic medals.
