Hyderabad: Pullela Gopichand, who is the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team, on Friday, revealed the major reason behind PV Sindhu's poor record in finals and Kidambi Srikanth's prolonged rough patch of form.

Exclusive interview with Pullela Gopichand

In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Gopichand said, "When I look at Sindhu's each match which she has lost in the finals, I believe there is hope for improvement in tactical areas but it's not about mental pressure or choking in the final battles."

Also, Gopichand revealed that Sindhu has lost various finals due to physical exhaustion or a better opponent in a summit clash.

"Sometimes players have outsmarted Sindhu in summit clashes, while on a couple of occasions, she was extremely tired entering due to tough quarterfinals and semifinals. Sindhu was physically drained out while entering finals," Gopichand said.

Talking about Kidambi's downfall, the national badminton coach said that the World no 9 Kidambi lacks consistency and despite reaching quarterfinals stage of many tournaments, he failed to finish on podium.

According to Gopichand, Kidambi also needs to improve physically and he struggles in slow conditions.

Interestingly, 45-year-old Gopichand is also hopeful that Saina Nehwal and Sindhu will work together in future to mentor the youngsters and help them improve their game.
