Chhattisgarh: National Tribal Dance Festival has begun in Raipur, the capital of this city. The three-day dance fest will be held from December 27-29, 2019. The festival was inaugurated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the inaugural function was presided over by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
It is an annual festival celebrated by aborigines and tribal of India. The festival is used to mark and celebrate the dances of Adivasi and tribal people in India as well as their indigenous tribal dance culture.
The dance competition is based on four themes including wedding or auspicious occasions, harvest/agriculture festivals, traditional festivals and open competition. Around 39 tribal groups have performed in the four different categories covering around 43 dance styles.
On the third day of the event, Lashpa dance of Uttarakhand, Bakarwal dance of Jammu, Bhadam dance of Madhya Pradesh, Gaddi dance of Himachal Pradesh, folk dances of Karnataka and Sikkim, Damkach dance of Jharkhand, Dandami dance of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh will be staged.
This is for the first time that the National Tribal Dance Festival is being organized in Chhattisgarh. Over 1300 participants from 25 states & Union Territories (UT) of India are participating in this national event.
This Tribal Dance Festival is annually held during the month of December. It is organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India in collaboration with IGRMS, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
