Mumbai: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory (PEMRA) has announced a complete ban on television commercials produced in India or featuring any Indian talent.

The official statement released by PEMRA on Wednesday stated, “appearance of Indian characters on Pakistani TV screens aggravates miseries of Pakistanis who are perturbed over Indian atrocities on Kashmiri brethren.”

The Pak media authority has banned TVCs carrying Indian content such as Dettol, Sunsilk, Surf Excel, Knorr, Pantene, Sufi, Head & Shoulders, Fair & Lovely, Lifebuoy, Safeguard and Fogg.

The press release issued by PEMRA also stated that the permission to air Indian television content/channels was withdrawn by the regulatory body in October last year.

On a related note, the Government of Pakistan announced their 73rd Independence Day on August 14, 2019, as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day.'

The decision came after the rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries on Kashmir issue. The scrapping of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has infuriated Pak government.
