Los Angeles: Colombian singers Shakira and Carlos Vives arrived on Wednesday for a hearing at a Madrid court over a plagiarism lawsuit filed by a Cuban musician.
Livan Rafael Castellanos, who is based in Madrid and is also known as Livam, alleges that parts of his 1997 song 'Yo te quiero tanto' were plagiarised in the Colombian duo's award-winning 2016 hit, 'La Bicicleta'.
The song - whose title translates to 'The Bike' - won last year's Grammy Latino award and was recognised again last month by the Billboard Awards as the best 2016 Hot Latin Song.
On a related note, the music sensation has also been summoned to appear in Barcelona court on June 12 in an ongoing tax fraud case in Spain. However, Shakira’s Spanish public relations firm said the singer had previously settled her debts with Spanish tax authorities but would testify as required in June.
