Los Angeles: Despite his repeated denials, it seems Joaquin Phoenix is coming back as The Joker in another film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Todd Phillips, who directed the actor is billion dollar blockbuster Joker, has started working on a sequel that will further explore the story of the iconic DC villain.
Sources said the sequel to Joker is "on the way" with Phillips returning as director. He will write the screenplay to the second part along with co-writer Scott Silver.
The superhero movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is also destined to generate profits of $600 million for Warners and partners Village Roadshow and Bron. The two partners each have a 25 per cent stake in the film.
He is said to have proposed to develop a host of origins of other prominent DC characters.Both Phillips and Warner Bros have declined to comment at the moment.

Joker, which recently entered USD 1 billion club to become the highest-grossing R-rated film ever, is generating strong Oscar buzz for Phoenix.

Joker tells the story of the popular DC supervillain of the same name. The film traces the protagonist's early life as Arthur Fleck (essayed by Phoenix), who is an aspiring stand-up comedian struggling to make ends meet and constantly derided by society.
In today's day and age, anti-heroes are getting into the spotlight, with filmmakers exploring the dark and cynical side of the story and winning the box office game.
