Santa Monica, California: The Critics' Choice Awards took place here on January 12. Actors Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger took home the top honours for their performances in Joker and Judy Garland respectively.
Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for his role in Joker, Renee Zellweger won best actress for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy, and in a bit of a surprise, Sam Mendes of 1917 and Bong Joon Ho of Parasite tied for Best Director.
The streaming giant took home nine awards, including The Irishman winning Best Ensemble, Laura Dern, fresh off a Golden Globe, winning Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story and Dolemite Is My Name taking home the prize for Best Comedy.

Although Ava Duvernay's When They See Us didn't take home any Golden Globes, it won Best Limited Series, and Jharrel Jerome won Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made For Television.
Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt took home the award for Best Picture, Succession won Best Drama, and Fleabag had an eventful night winning Best Comedy Series, and the show's star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, won Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
The show also honored Eddie Murphy with a lifetime achievement award, and Kristen Bell received the fourth annual #SeeHer Award.
