Los Angeles: Hollywood star Chris Pratt's The Tomorrow War imagines a military draft with a sci-fi twist. Pratt plays a father who is sent to fight a war against aliens 30 years in the future. The Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy star also executive produced the film.

"It's pretty scary to think of a draft. And what we did that's a little different in this film is this draft is happening because the sci-fi element of it, in the rules of time travel, you can't be alive in the era that you're going to. And the people who come back to train us can't be alive in the era that they're going to, say it's a 30-year difference. So, everyone training us is under 30 and everyone going on the draft is over 30," said Pratt. "It kind of goes against what you'd expect with every war movie. These are people who are not equipped to fight. They're not in the peak physical fitness of their life or in the prime of their physical life. And so, we had to have a little fun with that."

The 41-year-old actor says the movie –which imagines a post-apocalyptic world overrun by hungry monsters—could serve as a reminder to audiences to be grateful for their lives.

"Think back on the last year—that was a really rough year. And weirdly, each year before that, for the past three years, everyone was talking about how it was the worst year of their life. So imagine in 2019 talking about -- or in 2018 talking like it can't possibly get worse than this. And it's like well, it did." he said. "And, the likelihood that it could possibly get worse than that even now seems unlikely. But you look at something like this film and not that this is going to happen, and obviously, this is just pure escapism—we're supposed to have fun—but it can get worse. It can get much worse. And if it does, you'll be really regretful that you weren't present of how great it was in the moment. And so, I think that's a nice message to take away from this is like, you know, just shifting our perspective into a healthy way that allows us to be filled with gratitude."

The Tomorrow War will premiere July 2 on Amazon Prime Video.
