Beyonce, Lil Wayne grace BET awards with remarkable gig

The virtually-hosted 20th BET Awards paid tribute to Kobe Bryant and voiced support for the Black Lives Matter protesters. Where Lil Wayne dedicated a song to the late basketball player, Beyonce encouraged the protesters to decry racial injustice.

Washington: Hitting the virtual stage during the 20th edition of the BET Awards on Sunday (local time), rapper Lil Wayne and musician Beyonce encouraged Black Lives Matter protesters to continue fighting for equality.

"Your voices are being heard and you're proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain. I'm encouraging you to take action," sources quoted Beyonce as saying during the event.

The superstar was being honoured for her philanthropic work over the years and the most recent relief efforts during the coronavirus crisis.

The former first lady of America, Michelle Obama delivered the award to the Crazy In Love singer as she dubbed her as "the queen."

Wayne too brought attention to the Black Live Matter movement and the anti-police brutality protesters.

Besides, he also paid tribute to the late basketball player Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna who lost their lives during a helicopter crash earlier this year.

Lil performance included videos and lyrics highlighting the legacy of the star in spheres beyond basketball.

"I call him King Bryant. Now let the crown show," he rapped.

The performance highlighted some of the successful moments from the athlete's career including his Olympic career, and also his last time on the court in the year 2016.

The rapper's performance also included a shout-out to the late athlete's family and wife Vanessa.

The 20th edition of the BET Awards was hosted by Amanda Seales and was aired on ViacomCNS networks.
