Washington D.C.: Hollywood filmmaker Ben Wheatley is set to don the directorial hat for the upcoming sequel to 2018 release Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider sequel will feature Alicia Vikander who will be reprising her role as the treasure-hunting action heroine Lara Croft.
The script of the sequel is being written by Amy Jump while Graham King is producing the film under his banner GK Films and Elizabeth Cantillon.
The production on the second instalment will begin early next year.

Wheatley who has directed films like Kill List and Free Fire is in the post-production of his upcoming romantic thriller Rebecca produced by Working Title Films.
Rebecca which is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier stars Lily James, Armie Hammer and Kristin Scott Thomas in pivotal roles.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, Tomb Raider was jointly bankrolled by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Warner Bros Pictures, GK Films and Square Enix.
The action-adventure film was based on the 2013 video game of the same name, with some elements of its sequel by Crystal Dynamics, and is a reboot of the Tomb Raider film series.
The film stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, who embarks on a perilous journey to her father's last-known destination, hoping to solve the mystery of his disappearance.
It also starred Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Kristin Scott Thomas in supporting roles.
Tomb Raider which opened to mixed reviews from the critics grossed USD 275 million worldwide.
The sequel is reportedly scheduled to hit the big screens on March 19, 2021.
