Mumbai: Actor Bhagyashree shot to fame with her 1989 debut film Maine Pyar Kiya opposite Salman Khan. Then, even as she was being touted as Bollywood's next big thing, she announced her marriage to Himalaya, who was an aspiring actor then, and subsequently became a businessman.
The early marriage took a toll on her fledgling career and she never quite managed to make a comeback.
In a recent interview with a webloid, Bhagyashree spoke at length about her early marriage, her decision to quit acting and battling health issues.

The actor was at no dearth of film offers after the humongous success of MPK. However, she chose family life over career in films and kept on rejecting film offers from directors like Yash Chopra and Prakash Mehra.

"I actually refused most of the big films of that time. Every time I would meet Prakash uncle or Yashji (Chopra), they would fire me in front of everyone standing in front of us. Even very recently, a few years ago, when I even walked up to Yash uncle and introduced Abhimanyu to him, he told my son, "Yeh tumhari maa hai na, woh industry ki sab se stupid girl thi'. He really wanted to work with me and I would always say no. After Maine Pyar Kiya, every big film was offered to me, especially the ones these directors have done," said Bhagyashree when asked about turning down film offers.

Back in the day it had been reported how Bhagyashree and Himalaya got married in a hush-hush temple ceremony against the wishes of their parents, in the presence of Salman and Maine Pyar Kiya director Sooraj Barjatya among a handful of close friends and colleagues.
The 51-year-old actor has two films in the pipeline - Kitty Party and Prabhas' upcoming movie, tentatively titled Prabhas 20.
