When she was asked about the moment when she realised what it takes to be a mother, Kajol said, "I wanted to be a mother from the time I was a child. I wanted to be a mom that was my aim in life. I wanted to adopt a child when I was 8 and then when I was 12 and then when I was 18 and then my mom said, 'NO', then finally I was just like...okay forget it. I was disheartened and I decided to have my own whenever that was."

Revealing more about the same, Kajol further added, "I had this huge discussion about this (adoption) with my dad and he agreed. He said 'Yes baby, whatever you want baby' and then my mom will be like 'Shut up! Keep quite. I will have to raise the child'."
On speaking about experiencing motherhood when she had her first child, Kajol said, "When eventually I had my daughter I think she must have been two or three months old at that point of time I was in a daze. I don't even remember those first three months clearly to be very honest. But I remember after a few months calling my mom and breaking down and telling her that 'I never understood what all you did for me, how much you loved me, never understood how difficult it was to burp me and to be awake with me and I just never understood it.'"
