Mumbai: Vicky Kaushal was recently papped in Kolkata for the promotion of his upcoming film Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship. He said that he was blown away by seeing the script of the film.
Vicky said, "This was at the time of when Raazi was released, which was May 2018, when I got a call from Dharma productions and they said that we want to discuss a new film with you. So, when I went to the office, it was Shashank Khaitan and Bhanu Pratap Singh were sitting there. They started talking about a horror film."
"I was very intrigued and surprised at the same time, that Dharma productions is offering a horror film, as you do not see them together, the genre with the production house. So, I was very intrigued. I went back home, I read the script and I was really blown away by the script because I thought after a long time there is a true horror film that is being tried to be made," he added.
The Uri actor continued, "Usually what we do in a horror film is a kind of try to lure the audience by making it musical or making it a horror-comedy or erotic or romantic. But this was just a pure horror film like we see in Hollywood films. The aesthetic, the geography of the film was very much like those aesthetic."
"I loved the geography of the film, I thought was very fresh as it was of a haunted ship. Because usually, we see the old ancestral house, all that kind of locations are very common in a horror film. So, when this haunted ship idea came, I thought it was a very interesting concept. It reminded me of the Shinning were there is an antique hotel, 300 rooms and its just one person and then this paranormal presence, which is a spooky thought," Vicky said.
He added, "The Ship is also a big canvas where there are so many multiple rooms and structures, staircases and it's grungy, so I thought its a great geography for a horror film and I just loved the script of it and I went back to them and I said that I would love to be a part of it. I am very afraid of ghosts and I am very afraid of water and you have both of them in the film but let's see what happens."
Talking about his love for Kolkata, Vicky said, "I am so happy and I am so excited to be in Kolkata. And I keep saying, in Bombay also, then we keep having discussions about films and new films. I keep saying if I ever get a chance to read a script whose location is Kolkata, I won't even read it and say a yes to it. I want to shoot here and spend time here," Vicky concluded.
