Tuticorin custodial deaths: Bollywood condemn in unison

As the gruesome incident in Tuticorin sparked outrage on social media, scores of popular faces from Bollywood including actors Riteish Deshmukh, Parineeti Chopra, Parineeti Chopra and singer Rekha Bhardwaj among others took to their social media handles and condemned the alleged killing of the father-son duo.

Mumbai: The custodial deaths of a man and his son, who were arrested for allegedly violating lockdown restrictions, in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu have created a stir on the internet.

The father-son duo were allegedly killed in police custody on June 19.

Following the incident, several Bollywood celebrities took to their social media handles to condemn the alleged custodial deaths.

Calling it an "absolute national shame," actor Riteish Deshmukh wrote: "This is tragic & absolute National Shame. It sends shivers down my spine even reading about it. We all must stand together against this barbaric brutality. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix."

Shocked with the "brutal" incident, actor Genelia D'Souza tweeted: "I am so so shocked and pained and to a large extent just unsure, how we have become such a horrible race... This incident is so brutal, it actually breaks my heart... Just not done. #JusticeforJayarajAndFenix."

Seeking Justice for Jayaraj and Fenix, Parineeti Chopra wrote: "We go to the police when we are in danger. How can they BE the danger? Every single cop involved in their death needs to pay for this. I cannot imagine the pain the father and son went through. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix."

With a hashtag #EveryLifeMatters, Neha Dhupia tweeted: "Beaten to death by the police in the times of a #pandemic. Is just the suspension of these policemen enough? Is nt there crime more heinous than those who were trying to make a livelihood? We are outraged by the extent of brutality... #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix #EveryLifeMatters."

Condemning the "barbaric" act, Tamannaah Bhatia wrote on Twitter: "Aghast & ashamed! How barbaric can humankind be in tough times like these? This is an insult to the very essense of humanity. Brutality in all forms & at all levels needs to stop. Justice needs to be served.The law is equal for all & nobody is above it. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix."

Asking everyone to stand in support of Jayaraj and Fenix, actor Kajal Aggarwal tweeted: "This is gut wrenching, sickening and intolerable. Cannot seem to fathom how we as a society are so sick in the head. We have to raise our voice NOW. Stand in support of #JayarajandFenix #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix cannot imagine the sorrow of the family. Heartfelt grief and condolence."

Shocked with the incident, actor Rohit Bose Roy wrote on Twitter: "Omg this seems like a scene from a gruesome slasher film!! Ugggg just to hear the narration makes my blood boil... Shame!! Justice must be served! #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix."

Singer Rekha Bhardwaj also wrote: "#JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix Please share as this is unacceptable!"

Besides, Athiya Shetty, Alia Bhatt, Shruti Hasan, Shraddha Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Janhvi Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Ali Faizal, Kriti Kharbanda, Boney Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari and Zoya Akhtar also voiced out demanding a justice for Jayaraj and Fenix.
